About the Program
The ‘Foundations of ELT’ internship program has been designed specifically to provide a solution to the supply-and-demand dilemma the Polish ELT market faces: average salaries not being high enough to attract enough highly-qualified teachers, with ‘backpacker teachers not being of a sufficient quality to meet the demands of our learners.
Designed and led by our DELTA qualified teacher trainer, our internship program gives pre-service teachers the techniques, theory and mindset they need to step into the world of English language teaching with confidence.
Each participant on the course must have an initial, accredited level 5 TEFL certificate to enroll, allowing us to spend the next 120 hours helping to bring their teaching to life for the real world.
Our blended course, consisting of 3 modules, has been modeled on the the industry-leading qualifications CELTA & TKT (offered by Cambridge ESOL), though adapted to be a more flexible, reasonably-priced option for the participant, while offering a quality, cost-effective and scaleable solution for our partners in the Polish market.
With our support, training and guidance, our graduates will be sufficiently equipped to conduct fun, dynamic lessons for a whole range of learners, all while being part of a community which places great emphasis on continued professional development and reflective practice; giving our teachers the wings to become fully independent professionals.
Module One – Foundations of Methodology : An interactive online course consisting of 7 units. Each unit is assessed both through a TKT-style test, and submission of a piece of coursework. Parallel to this section of the course, participants must undertake at least 10 hours of online teaching with real students.
Module Two : Foundations of Teaching Practice : a 40-hour intensive face to face course where participants can choose to focus on either ‘business/adult’ or ‘young learner’ teaching. The course contains observed teaching practice with real students, and a plethora of practical workshops conducted by experienced teacher trainers.
Module Three : Extended Practice & Specialisation : After the initial part of the course, participants are then invited to participate in bimonthly training workshops (live in Kraków or line) to help bridge them to DELTA module 1 if they want to progress in their teaching careers. In addition to this, our graduates are required to develop their material development skills by submitting 1 authentic material per month.
