General

How long has English Wizards' been around for?

English Wizards first started back in September 2018 and was officially launched in March, 2019. Since then our company has grown exponentially, with over 150 contractors (or Wizards as we prefer to call them) registered in our community as of today. Our unique approach to ESL teaching and other services has allowed us to stand out in the market, as we deliver a number of services in a way never seen before in Poland.

Is English Wizards' a school?

We are not a school in the traditional sense. We are an educational provider; we are a community that provides educational services (as well as numerous other services!)

We do not provide our educational services through a traditional structure of campuses, classrooms, course calendars, and curriculums in the manner of an ordinary school. Instead, we empower our Wizards to provide language education using both their own talents (all are experienced educators and qualified to teach their native tongue) combined all of the resources and support provided by our community. This includes an online library of exclusive teaching material, a virtual platform for conducting online classes, and frequent hands-on training from our talented Academic Director.

Who are your "Wizards?"

Our Wizards are the beating heart of our community!

Wizards in our community come to Poland from all over the world; we currently have 22 countries represented among the 150+ Wizards in our community. The top represented countries are the United States, United Kingdom, South Africa, and Canada. Almost all of our Wizards are qualified ESL teachers, and many posses other useful qualifications as well, such as teaching licenses and childcare certificates.

Within our community, our Wizards work for English Wizards as contractors. In return, we provide each of them with full access to our numerous support services, including visa and work permit support, general expat services, and regular social events.

What are your payment terms?

This depends on what program you are working with.

Payment for the Language Assistant Program is due on the first day of the current month, but for most other programs, invoices are provided at the end of the calendar month and are typically payable within 7 days. We are usually able to negotiate payment terms to fit your needs, however we cannot receive payment any later than the 13th day of the following month. This is because our Wizards (like most freelance contractors in Poland) expect to be paid by the 15th, and we require at least 48 hours to process payroll.

What Happens If I Don't Receive an Invoice?

All our invoicing is linked directly to our online system that all Wizards must use.  This means every Wizard is 100% responsible for the accuracy and on time sending of invoices. If there are any errors or delays, you’re first point of contact is the Wizard themselves. If the Wizard does their job correctly, invoices are sent out automatically on the 2nd day of the following month.

How are all of English Wizards' contractors legal to work in Poland?

We provide full-service immigration assistance to all of our Wizards who are not citizens of the European Union. As this process can take up to three months’ time, we are busy recruiting Wizards year-round so that no matter when you need their services, we can assure you that we’ll have a selection Wizards legal and ready to go.

Can I choose which Wizard I work with?

Absolutely! All of our Wizards function as independent contractors, so you have complete autonomy in selecting whom you want to work with. You can begin the process of selecting a contract by browsing through our approved Wizards here and contacting whoever you want to work with directly. Alternatively, you can fill out our online form with the details and requirements of the job you’re requesting, and the offer will be automatically sent to each of our eligible contractor’s smartphones along with your contact information so they can contact you directly.

Can I sign a contract with your Wizards?

No.  Our Wizards work for English Wizards on the basis of a freelance work contract, as per their work permits, visa and agreements. However, you can sign a contract with English Wizards to cover the services performed by our Wizards. We provide a contract template to cover the various services we provide. This protects you in all the regular legal ways around typical classroom / semester structure, invoicing / payments, student engagement, behavior and penalties. Our contract has been approved by our legal team as well as many national educational providers.

We also encourage that you provide our Wizards with some form of written guidelines, which you are welcome to ask them to sign. Our B2B contracts which you can sign refer to this, so if a contractor breaches your guidelines we will enforce all penalties that have been outlined in the writing.

Do I need to request permission from English Wizards before contacting or working with one of your Wizards?

Nope! As all of our Wizards are independent contractors, you are not required to use us as an “intermediary” when contacting them. Nor are they required to seek our permission before accepting your offer.

Once you have selected a Wizard that best fits your needs, just let us know the details and we will send you a contract for the services our contractor will be performing.

Company Services

Team Building & Events - What Happens When the Weather is Bad?

If the weather is bad enough to cancel any city game or photo challenge, we are simply postponing the event for the next available date.  There are no refunds given for bad weather.

Team Building & Events - What if I Change My Mind?

Once you have paid your deposit, this is non-refundable however, we encourage you to choose another date or event type that best suits you.  We will then honor your deposit up to 6 months from when you pay it.
If you’ve decided that none of our events are suitable for you after paying your deposit, we encourage you to provide us with details of what you do want so we can customize an event just for you. Costs may vary here depending on the final result.

Team Building & Events - What Happens with All the Photos?

During each event, there will be photography happening.  These images will be reused by English Wizards for promotional & marketing reasons. We will also provide a selection of images to each client as a souvenir, capturing all those special moments between each of your staff.
If anyone specifically requests that their photo not be taken, we will of course respect this, regardless if photography happens in a public area.  This choice however, will be made public to the other participants as it would be impossible to organise group photos otherwise.

Team Building & Events - I Don't See Any Events I Like, Can You Create a Customised one?

100%! No Matter what your group size is or exactly what type of skills you want your team to work on, we can create something just for you! Our Academic Director is a creative genius!

Team Building & Events - Do You Provide Group Discounts?

The way that each event is constructed is modular. This means that the cost of running each event doesn’t reduce simply because there are more people. In fact, it’s the opposite. Depending how large a group is can attract higher costs for us. i.e. Needing more people to assist with the running of the event.
Due to this, there are no discounts available to our set event programs.
What we can provide you however, is to become part of our affiliate program.  If you refer new clients / companies to English Wizards, you could be rewarded anywhere from 100PLN to 1’000PLN!

Copywriting & Content Production - What's the Average Turnaround Time?

This very much relies on the scope and size of the project.  Typically a blog post would be 72 hours however most all other jobs vary far too much to provide a general time frame.  When you submit your project request, we will always provide you with a quote which will include a time frame of completion.

Copywriting & Content Production - When Should I Pay?

Typically payment terms are 7 days from when the project has been completed however for larger projects, we may ask for a 30% deposit before commencement.

Copywriting & Content Production - How Do I Know the Job will be of Good Quality

Unlike typical companies and methods, when you submit your project, you have multiple contractors competing for it. This means you are able to vet yourself previous works they have done and make your choice based on who you think will provide you with the best quality.
Generally, any contractor that we have approved for any service means they have passed our internal quality assurance.

Copywriting & Content Production - Can You Work with Our Marketing?

All of our contractors are able to work cooperatively with anyone within your business, regardless if they are internal or external to your company. Achieving a good result is always at our core.

Video & Audio - Can I Request a Sample Before Committing?

Definitely! Requesting a sample video, audio or even a portfolio from any of our contractors we believe is a must! Knowing what you are getting is all part of this service.

Video & Audio - Who Will do the Post Editing?

If you have requested that we provide the post editing it will be either done by either the contractor themselves (if they have this skill) or our outsourced agency.

Video & Audio - What are Your Time Frames?

It’s very dependent on each project and typically this is agreed and discussed directly with each contractor.

Recruitment - Will the Contractor Still be Contracted to English Wizards?

No.  When you agree on taking one of our contractors to your company they then become 100% yours.  This means that their work permit and visa must be updated along side the general recruiting process.  We can happily provide these immigration services to you at a discounted rate or you can complete this yourself.

Recruitment - When is Payment Required?

Payment is required 7 days from your decision to take one of our contractors.  This payment however is at risk until 3 months is successfully completed.  If you choose to not hire the contractor after this period, English Wizards reserves the right to provide you with another replacement which will have the same 3 month term.  This can happen only once and there are no refunds unless we are unable to provide you with a suitable contractor.  In the event we are unable to provide someone the refund rate is 70% of the original amount.

Graduate Program

Do I have to commit to a certain number of hours per Graduate that I work with?

Not necessarily, however we do guarantee every Graduate on this program between 15 and 30 hours per week. This means that if you are unable to commit to a minimum of 15 hours per week, the selection of Graduates which we will be able to provide you will be more limited. We would also have to provide them with additional hours with another client, which may limit your scheduling flexibility.

What is the rate for the Graduate program?

Graduates start at 50 PLN per hour, paid through VAT-free invoice.  You are free to offer the Graduate more if you feel that a higher salary is worthwhile to guarantee performance and longevity.

Can I sign a contract with the Graduate?

Is there a minimum or maximum amount of time I must commit to working with a graduate?

All of our Graduates are committing to participate in this program for a minimum of four calendar months, or one academic semester. As such, we require that you provide them with the same minimum commitment.

As with the rest of our Wizards, there is no upper limit to how long you can work with them. All Graduates are contractors, so you can negotiate the length of commitment directly with them and include this in the written guidelines for them to sign. Many plan to stay in Poland long-term, and will be happy to agree to 1-2 year commitments.

Do I have to provide the Graduate with training or support?

For most of our Graduates, this is their first proper teaching job, so we do expect you to provide them with some support in the classroom, especially during the first few weeks. We also expect that you train them in your curriculum and teaching methodology, if necessary.

All Graduates receive intensive training plus ongoing instruction through our Teacher Training Program, as well as full support outside of the classroom. So the bulk of the training and support can be left to us.

Language Assistants Program

What is the job of a Language Assistant?

As with all of our Wizards, Language Assistants are independent contractors, so you are free to negotiate the exact job duties directly with the Language Assistant.

However, Language Assistants are not perpared to be full classroom teachers. If your job entails as leading a classroom alone, planning lessons, grading assignments, teaching from a curriculum, or other duties of a properly qualified teacher, you should look into our Native Teachers Program or Graduate Program.

Are Language Assistants less qualified than Wizards on your Native Teachers Program or Graduate Program?

Language Assistants are not “less” qualified than our other Wizards; however their qualifications are different than what most of our Wizards possess. Just as the job they’re expecting to do is different.

While we require everyone on our Native Teachers Program and Graduate Program to have TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) qualifications, we do not require this for Language Assistants. Instead, we screen potential Language Assistants for their experience working with kids, childcare qualfications, and general energy and enthusiasm.

What rate does a Language Assistant get paid?

Language Assistants are coming to Poland on our unique cultural immersion program. This means they receive accommodation & a stipend from us every month as opposed to an hourly rate like the rest of our Wizards.

This is meant to allow them to cover day-to-day living expenses so that they can enjoy their experience of living in Poland and working as a Language Assistant without worrying about bills and finances. They are not expecting to use this program to make money, and mostly will come with their own savings to cover holidays, traveling, and other expenses.

Can I offer a Language Assistant a pay raise or a bonus?

You certainly can. If you would like to add any extra pay or bonuses on top of the monthly package payment, we will pass it on directly to the Language Assistant.

What if I need a Language Assistant to work more hours than what I've paid for?

Langauge Assistants are never required to work more hours than they’ve been contracted for, however you are welcome to ask them to work overtime if needed. Most Langauge Assistants are happy to agree to this, and extra hours will be charged at a rate of 60 PLN per hour. This rate can increase if the hours requested exceed 40 per week, as per Polish laws governing overtime pay.

If your need for extra hours is ongoing, we will invite you to upgrade to a package that better suites your needs for future months.

Why are the packages paid upfront?

As we are providing each Language Assistant with accommodation and a living stipend instead of traditional hourly renumeration, we therefore must make payments at the beginning of each month. As such, we require that each month’s hours be paid at the beginning of each month.

How do I select a Language Assistant?

If you are interested in our Language Assistant Program, start by contacting us with the details of what you’re looking for. We will then let you know what Language Assistants we have available, and you can then interview them directly to decide who is the best fit for your school.

Once you’ve chosen a Language Assistant, we require a refundable deposit in the amount of 50% of the package’s monthly rate paid upfront. We ask the Langauge Assistant for a similar refundable deposit, as well as a fee for our work permit services if they’re not an EU citizen – so you won’t be paying us anything until the Language Assistant you’ve selected has fully committed.

Why do you require a deposit before working with a Language Assistant?

Two reasons. Firstly, each Language Assistant is making a huge decision to relocate halfway across the world for the sole experience of working with you on our Language Assistant Program. Many come from as far away as New Zealand and South Africa, and spend up to a year and many thousands of dollars planning their travels. The upfront deposit gives them the assurance that a real job awaits them at a school that is genuinely excited to have them

Secondly, we are also making a huge financial investment in each Language Assistant who comes to Poland. We not only provide them with a fully furnished apartment room ready the minute they arrive, but also a full welcome package that includes airport pickup, a phone SIM card, and full orientation. Language Assistants cover part of the cost of this with a similar deposit which they must pay before accepting your offer, but it would be very unfair of us to put all of the financial burden on the Language Assistant.

What If I change my mind and no longer want to work with the Language Assistant that I've chosen?

As with all of our Wizards, you are welcome to terminate a Language Assistant provided that you give 30 days notice. However, if you decide to prematurely terminate the Langauge Assistant within 5 months of commencing the contract, the deposit will not be refunded.

Our Language Assistants make a huge commitment when they choose to relocate to Poland to work with you, so we ask that the commitment goes both ways.

Native Teachers Program

Are all Wizards on this program native speakers?

Most are, but not all of them!

We currently have 22 countries of origin represented amongst the 150+ Wizards in our community. While we do not discriminate against any nationality in our selection process, all Wizards must speak a native-level of English, and have a nuetral and clear accent. In other words, whether they are native or non-native, we assure you that their level of English is indistinguishable from a native speaker.

Do you have other languages besides English?

We sure do! Although English is our community’s specialty, we understand that there is a demand for services in other langauge as well, and we are getting more and more interest from Wizards looking to provide services in other native languages. Currently we have contractors available for services in Spanish, French, Arabic, Chinese, and more.

What is the rate for the Native Teachers Program?

All Wizards on this program are contractors and have the freedom to negotiate rates directly with you.

However, from our experience and the data we’ve collected, the market rate which most of our Wizards will accept is 60 PLN per hour. That being said, we have many Wizards willing to accept lower rates, as well as many highly qualified Wizards who will ask for more than this.

Do you charge any fees or commission on top of the Wizards' agreed rate?

Nope! We are not a recruitment agency. The only fees charged for the Native Teachers Program are for the services themselves, for which the rate is agreed upon between you and our Wizards as contractors.

Nope! We are not a recruitment agency. The only fees charged for the Native Teachers Program are for the services themselves, for which the rate is agreed upon between you and our Wizards as contractors.

What rate do Wizards on the Native Teachers Program get paid?

Wizards on this program are paid the sum of the total rate which you have agreed to pay, minus 17% (equivilant to national income tax for contracts). We also charge Wizards on this program a monthly administrative fee.

Can I offer a Wizard a bonus or pay raise?

Absolutely! As the pay is negotiated 100% between you and the Wizard as an independent contractor, it is always possible to raise the rate of pay or provide them with an extra bonus. You are welcome to include pay raises or potential bonuses in the contract.

Can I sign a contract directly with a Wizard?

In most cases, no.  Our Wizards work for English Wizards on the basis of a freelance work contract, as per their work permits and agreements. However, you can sign a contract with English Wizards to cover the services performed by our Wizards. We provide a number of contract templates to cover the various services provided on our Native Teachers Program, and you are always welcome to customize them or provide us with your own contract.

We also encourage that you provide our Wizards with some form of written guidelines, which you are welcome to ask them to sign. Our B2B contracts which you can sign refer to this, so if a contractor breaches your guidelines we will enforce all penalties that have been outlined in the writing.

Teacher Training Academy

When is Payment Due?

100% of payment is due no later than two weeks prior to the start of the course. If payment has not been made by that day, the spot in the course will be awarded to another teacher.

Where are the training courses held?

The training courses are held at various affiliated language schools in Krakow. We can arrange courses in other cities in Poland at your request, however we require a minimum of four teachers enrolled to open up a custom training course.

Are the dates of the training courses flexible?

As many teachers commit to our training courses many months in advance, we cannot change the dates of courses that have already been scheduled. However, if you have a group of four or more teachers, we can offer a customized training course at a date of your choosing, depending on the availability of our instructor.

Authentic Teaching Materials

Are You Able to Create Customised Lesson Plans?

No matter what your field, specialty or requirements are, we can customize lessons material for you.

How Much Do Your Materials Cost?

If you are a member of our community, you have this service free of charge.  To be a member you only need to be using one of our ongoing programs. First use Policy of no more than 4 lessons plans per month can be requested.
